HIST 3290 - Ancient Near East: Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Levant Begins with the Neolithic Revolution and the origins of civilization in the Ancient Near East and Egypt, including the Sumerians, Babylonians, Egyptians, Hebrews, Philistines, Phoenicians and Persians. Assignments and lectures are based on both archaeological and literary sources.
Requisites: Soph or Jr or Sr Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be critical readers of both primary and secondary sources, and will use both types of evidence in their written work.
- Students will be able to synthesize primary and secondary source materials in either an original research project or in a creative project.
- Students will improve their ability to make historical observations and arguments in written work.
- Students’ work will reflect an understanding of the events and culture of the historical topics examined in class.
