Registration Fees - The OHIO Guarantee
|
^ TOP
|
The OHIO Guarantee sets a new standard among Ohio’s public institutions of higher education by taking the guesswork out of budgeting for college. The OHIO Guarantee is a cohort based, level-rate tuition, housing, dining, and fee model that assures students and their families a set of comprehensive rates for the pursuit of an undergraduate degree at Ohio University. Tuition, housing, dining, and fee rates established at enrollment remain unchanged for 12 consecutive semesters. For more information about The OHIO Guarantee please visit www.ohio.edu/guarantee.
Tuition and fees are assessed based on the number of credit hours of enrollment, Ohio residency, campus, and The OHIO Guarantee cohort group. Tuition includes an instructional fee and a general fee. A nonresident surcharge is assessed to students who are not residents of the State of Ohio. The nonresident surcharge, if assessed, will remain the same rate for 12 consecutive semesters.
Program fees for study abroad and domestic travel courses (e.g. flight costs, activity fees, etc.) are not part of the OHIO Guarantee; however, the tuition for these courses is included in The OHIO Guarantee. Class fees for a small number of programs or activities will be assessed beyond the tuition. These additional fees are denoted in the Course Offerings.
Registration Fees - Non-OHIO Guarantee

Tuition and fees are assessed based on the number of credit hours of enrollment, Ohio residency, campus, and program. Tuition includes an instructional fee and a general fee. A nonresident surcharge is assessed to students who are not residents of the State of Ohio. Tuition excludes academic course-related fees. The Course Offerings identifies sections of courses that require additional fees.
Several colleges assess a technology fee to their students. Additionally, the University assesses a Student Information System/Network fee to all students. Technology fee schedules can be found at www.ohio.edu/bursar/undergraduate-tuition.cfm.
Ohio University utilizes an electronic billing system. The Office of the Bursar will email an account balance notice to students and their authorized users at the beginning of the month, if a payment is due to Ohio University. Balances not paid by the due date will be assessed a 1.5% late payment fee and a financial hold will be placed on the student’s record that prevents adding classes and the release of grades, transcripts, and diploma.
You are responsible for any University communication sent to you at your official University email address and/or to the mailing address on file with the Office of the University Registrar.
Late Registration Fees
|
^ TOP |
Unless your registration has been delayed by the University, you will be charged a fee for late registration after the Friday of the second week of the semester. The fee is $40 the 3rd week, $60 the 4th week, $80 the 5th week, and $100 the 6th week.
Monthly Payment Plan
|
^ TOP |
Ohio University provides a monthly payment plan for students. The plan consists of three (3) monthly installments per semester. This plan is not a loan program, and there is no interest charge on payments. For additional information visit the bursar’s website at www.ohio.edu/bursar/payment-plan.cfm
University Refund Policy for Withdrawal. Ohio University refunds fees or credits your account according to the following schedule:
- If you officially withdraw from the University (cancellation of registration) before the first day of classes, you are entitled to a 100 percent reduction of tuition and fees*.
- If you officially withdraw from the University through Friday of the second week of the semester (see the academic calendar www.ohio.edu/registrar/calendar.cfm), you are entitled to an 80 percent reduction of tuition and fees*.
- If you withdraw from the University after the Friday of the second week of the semester, you are not entitled to a reduction of tuition and fees*.
*These deadlines are based on full semester class enrollment. Deadlines for classes that meet less than a full semester will vary. Refer to Course Offerings for withdrawal deadlines.
If you withdraw from the University before full payment of fees is made, you are considered indebted to the University for the amount determined according to the refund regulations. A hold will be placed on your records until your debt is paid.
Refund Policy for Reducing Course Load. If you drop credit hours before or through the Friday of the second week of the semester, your tuition and fees will adjust downward accordingly. For example, if you are registered for 12 hours and drop a three–hour course, your tuition will adjust downward from full-time to part-time. However, if you have 15 hours and drop to 12 hours, it does not affect the tuition, because the full-time tuition rate applies to a course load of 12 through 20 hours. Course load reductions made after the Friday of the second week of the semester will result in no reduction of tuition and fees. Changing registration that results in increased hours could increase tuition. Further information regarding the refund of fees can be obtained from the Office of the Bursar.

Ohio University reserves the right to make, without prior notice, any fee adjustments that may become necessary.

Withdrawal Information for Financial Aid Recipients
|
^ TOP |
If you are receiving financial aid, a change in your enrollment status or your withdrawal from the University may result in you having to repay programs from which you received financial assistance. In addition, you may owe fees to the University after funds are returned to the financial aid programs.
A student is not eligible for a refund until all Federal Title IV programs and other grants and scholarships are reimbursed as required, and all outstanding balances with the University have been cleared.
Title IV Funds
You are a Title IV financial aid recipient if you receive a Federal Direct Loan (Subsidized, Unsubsidized, or PLUS), Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, or TEACH Grant. If you receive Title IV financial aid and withdraw from Ohio University, the amount of aid earned and unearned will be calculated using the Federal Return of Title IV Funds policy. This policy is a formula that measures the percentage of days enrolled during a semester. The percentage is determined by dividing the number of days enrolled by the number of calendar days in the semester, including weekends and holidays. Based on this percentage, Title IV financial aid will be prorated to reflect the amount of aid that was earned during the period of enrollment. The amount of aid that is earned will remain on your student account and the amount of aid that is unearned will be returned to the appropriate program. Once the attendance percentage reaches 60 percent, all Title IV aid is considered to be earned.
If it is determined that Title IV funds need to be returned, by Federal Law they will be returned in the following order: Unsubsidized Direct Loans, Subsidized Direct Loans, Federal PLUS Loans, Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, TEACH Grant, and other Title IV assistance.
State and Institutional Grants
If you receive financial aid that consists of state or University grant funds, they are subject to the University Refund Policy. If you officially withdraw through the Friday of the second week of the semester, 80 percent of the grant funds will be returned to the appropriate program. After the Friday of the second week of the semester, 100 percent of the grant funds will remain on your student account.
Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships
If you receive financial aid that consists of undergraduate or graduate scholarships, they are subject to a special university policy. If you officially withdraw through the Friday of the second week of the semester, 100 percent of the scholarship funds will be returned to the appropriate program. After the Friday of the second week of the semester, 100 percent of the scholarship funds will remain on your student account.
Unofficial Withdrawals
If you stop attending the University and do not officially withdraw, it is considered to be an unofficial withdrawal and will be subject to the above withdrawal policies. The date of withdrawal will be based on the last date of a student’s attendance or participation in an academically related event. If you never attend all of the courses you have registered for, you are considered to be an unofficial withdrawal. It is determined you have not earned any financial aid. Therefore, all aid will be returned to the appropriate program.
