Provides an introduction to empirical methods for the study of a writer’s products, processes, and social contexts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to analyze, compare, and evaluate essential research findings about writing practice and development in ways that meet the methods of established scholars.
  • Students will be able to employ and reflect on ethical decision making in research design.
  • Students will be able to defend the possibilities and limitations of common qualitative research methods in Rhetoric and Composition.
  • Students will be able to design and implement substantial empirical research projects and analyze the theoretical models that underpin them.
