The evolution of epistemological, conceptual, and theoretical foundations of Development Studies; contemporary debates in development scholarship and implications for development practice.

Learning Outcomes:
 

  • Assesses the implications of development theory for applied research and practice.
  • Critically evaluates theoretical frameworks in the field and their evolution.
  • Examine conceptions of development as a historical process, as a material social condition, and as a narrative.
  • Identifies the disciplinary origins of Development Studies and assesses the successes and failures of the field as an interdisciplinary venture.
