PSY 7960 - Seminar in Teaching of Psychology Exploration of issues in, and approaches to, teaching in the field of psychology. The curriculum includes topics such as characteristics of good classes and teachers, syllabus preparation, lecture and discussion techniques, active learning, exam preparation, learning objectives and assessments, diversity/equity/inclusivity issues in higher education, technology in the classroom, online teaching, professional issues, and grading practices.
Requisites: Graduate student in psychology Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 seminar Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to create an effective syllabus.
- Students will be able to prepare and implement a variety of course assessments.
- Students will be able to develop a substantive lesson plan, lesson presentation, and discussion facilitation techniques.
- Students will be able to understand and apply ethical and professional guidelines in the teaching of psychology.
- Students will be able to investigate and apply a variety of pedagogical approaches to college education, identify their own pedagogical style, and be able to communicate that to others.
- Students will be able to negotiate and utilize basic functions of the LMS and other technology for teaching courses.
- Students will be able to analyze and discuss best practices in online/remote teaching techniques.
- Students will be able to express an understanding of diversity/equity/inclusion issues in college teaching environments.
