NRSE 6847 - Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Practicum II

Focuses on the role of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner as an interdisciplinary healthcare team member. Emphasis is on advanced assessment, diagnosis, and clinical management with individuals, groups, and families throughout the lifespan.

Requisites: NRSE 6846
Credit Hours: 6
Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.5 lecture, 5.0 clinical

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to appraise the role of the PMHNP to provide healthcare for individuals and families from diverse backgrounds with psychiatric mental health problems.
  • Students will be able to examine the knowledge from physiological, psychological, social, and health sciences to provide evidence-based care collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate diagnostic reasoning skills through assessment and differential diagnoses in the clinical management of individuals and families with selected psychiatric mental health disorders throughout the lifespan.
  • Students will be able to describe multidisciplinary psychotherapeutic and pharmacological treatment modalities for selected psychiatric mental health disorders throughout the lifespan.
  • Students will be able to use the social, ethical, legal, economic, political, technological, and environmental issues in the care of individuals and families by a PMHNP.
  • Students will be able to examine effective management plans to optimize client outcomes.
  • Students will be able to analyze practice management principles utilized within inpatient and community settings.
