CLAR 451 - Mycenaean Society Examines Mycenaean society primarily from the information in Mycenaean texts including original Linear B texts, put into perspective through the use of archaeological material. Examines the development and use of scripts in the Aegean to record different aspects of the palace economy. Topics include the social structure within and outside the palaces, agriculture, craft production, trade, the demise of the palace economic system, and the relevance of the Homeric poems to our understanding of Mycenaean society. (No linguistic prerequisite.) Prerequisites: SOPH OR JR OR SR
Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken an unlimited number of times, but only last course taken counts.
