T3 480G - Schooling and the State Critical inquiry into how education, through citizenship preparation, has been seen by liberal, conservative, and socialist philosophers as resolving social crises. Particular attention to eras of extreme social crisis such as Great Depression and recent decades. Use of popular literature and source documents to relate educational prescriptions to current topics in education. Prerequisites: SR ONLY & T2 CRSE IN SOCIAL SCIENCES
