C S 417 - Programming for Bioinformatics Students uses the Perl Programming language to develop custom software tools that solve problems in the life sciences. Topics covered include the Perl programming language, processing DNA sequences and protein sequences, restriction maps, GenBank, protein data bank, parsing BLAST output, Bioperl, data pipelines, and the Entrez programming utilities.
Prerequisites: C S 361 OR PBIO 416 Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Note: Effective Summer Quarter 2010-11 (June 2011) any non-repeatable course may be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
