EDCS 400 - School, Society, and the Professional Educator Studies the social, philosophical, ideological, and historical foundations of K-12 education in the United States as they apply to both practical and theoretical issues for the professional educator. Four questions guide inquiries into the foundations of education: Why do we educate? For whom is education intended and designed? What are the personal, social, and cultural effects of education? Who bears the institutional responsibility for education?
Prerequisites: SR & EDCS 301 & (EDSE 350 & 351) OR (EDMC 300 & 301) OR (EDCR 210 & 210L & 310 & 310L) Credit Hours: 4 General Education Code: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken one time excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Note: Effective Summer Quarter 2010-11 (June 2011) any non-repeatable course may be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
