MPA 6030 - Qualitative Research Methods in Public Administration
An introduction to the principles, methodologies, and methods of qualitative research. The course will examine the role of qualitative research in the field of public administration (and allied fields) as well as the relationship between qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The course will provide students the opportunity to examine and practice approaches and methodologies utilized by qualitative researchers such as: interviewing, ethnography, participant observation, case studies, discourse analysis, and content analysis. Through readings, discussions, and practice, students will be able analyze the comparative strengths and liabilities of each method. The course will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to select qualitative methodologies and methods that are appropriate given the research question at hand.
Requisites MPA 6010 or POLS 601 Credit Hours: 3.0 Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 6.0 hours.
