LET 3600 - Chemistry and the Law Examines the role of chemistry in the courtroom. Rules of evidence, admissibility and expert testimony extensively examined. Explores the relationship of logic, ethics, and wrongful convictions from the perspective of a forensic chemist. Particular emphasis given to forensic chemistry related to the disciplines of latent fingerprints, fire debris and explosives, DNA, controlled substances and toxicology. Application of course content in a mock trial involving testimony as an expert witness required.
