HIST 3355 - History of Modern Iran Will be a survey of modern Iranian history from 1800 to the present. Covers the 19th- Century Qajar Dynasty, the reforms of Reza Shah Pahlavi, the downfall of Muhammad Reza Shah, the Islamic Revolution and the rise of the Ayatollah Khomeini, and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Topics to be covered include the role of women in Iranian history, the role of Shi’ism in Iranian history and politics, Iran and human rights, the hostage crisis and relations with the United States.
