CE 5860 - Theory of Plates and Shells Bending of rectangular and circular plates, small and large deflection theory, and membrane and bending shell theory.

- Students will analyze cylindrical shells of general shape.
- Students will analyze simply supported rectangular plates.
- Students will analyze symmetrically loaded shells of revolution.
- Students will be introduced to advanced topics.
- Students will know the governing differential equations of plate deflection.
- Students will learn boundary conditions that are commonly employed in plate problems.
- Students will understand basic assumptions necessary for the analysis of plates and shells.
- Students will understand membrane action.
- Students will understand the relationships among stress, curvature, and moment
