ISE 5140 - Introduction to Operations Research Introduction to basic methods of operations research, modeling methods, linear programming, simplex method, transportation and assignment models, and integer programming.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Apply basic branch-and-bound method on small problems.
- Apply the Simplex method.
- Describe heuristic search methods.
- Develop assignment models.
- Distinguish between linear and nonlinear relations in various problems.
- Distinguish between real and integer decision variables.
- Explain what a mathematical model is and what kinds of problems can be modeled in this way.
- Formulate a mathematical programming problem with objective function, constraints and decision variables.
- Formulate transportation models and apply transportation simplex.
- Graphical solution of a two decision variable model.
- Use Microsoft Excel solver or equivalent software to obtain optimal solutions.
