ISE 5170 - Lean Manufacturing and Service Systems This course focuses on tools for applying lean thinking, lean principles and lean methods in manufacturing and service systems. Students will learn basic methods of the lean production, such as value-stream mapping, 5(6)-S, continuous flow, Kanban, SMED, A3, and continuous improvement. The methods will be learned by practicing them in lab setting and in projects.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 laboratory Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Analyze setup operations and reduce changeover times.
- Apply 5S to improve a work area.
- Balance the workload of a team of workers.
- Create a Value Stream Map of a manufacturing or service system.
- Develop continuous flow schedules.
- Explain the objectives of applying lean methods in manufacturing and service systems.
- Implement a kanban system for production control.
- Lead Kaizen events
