IIP 6941 - Professional Seminar 1


Professional Seminar 1 is a forum for students studying in the PhD IIP program. The seminar will facilitate conversations on scholarship and what it means to take on the challenge of bringing an interdisciplinary perspective to projects/assignments. The focus for this Professional Seminary is, first, on orienting students to the IIP requirements and the challenges involved in crafting a graduate degree program. Second, we examine a variety of issues related to scholarship, including: (1) finding your voice as a scholar, (2) conference participation, (3) the process of scholarly publication, (4) grant writing, and (5) writing a research paper/dissertation.

Credit Hours: 1

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to articulate the current state of interdisciplinary scholarship.
  • Students will be able to articulate the foundations of interdisciplinary work.
  • Students will be able to work with an interdisciplinary guidance committee as they develop their program of study.
