IHS 6210 - Globalization & Health Explores the impact of globalization on emerging global diseases and trends, especially those impacted by migration, disasters, economics, policy, and changing life styles. The course employs a case-based approach to explore the rapidly changing health needs of countries throughout the world and the policies, practices, and organizations put in place to meet those needs.
Requisites: IHS 5210 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Analyze the impact of globalization on health care systems and trends in communicable and chronic diseases and the dual burden of disease.
- Analyze the impact of migration on disease movement.
- Discuss global health security in relation to pandemics.
- Discuss globalization as a set of complex political, economic, environmental, and social processes.
- Discuss how organizations develop and adapt to meet the changing global health needs and crises.
- Evaluate responses to natural and man-made disasters.
- Examine the impact of global policies on health and health inequalities between and within countries.
- Examine the intersection of environment, animal, and human health.
