RFM 2150 - Elementary Textiles This course covers the properties and processing of fibers, yarns, fabrics, dyeing/printing techniques, and finishes with emphasis on consumer use and care.
Requisites: Tier I Math and (Soph or Jr or Sr) Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 laboratory Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to classify fiber content, yarn type, fabrication method, dye/print method and finishing techniques for commercial fabrics.
- Students will be able to catagorize and analyze fibers and fabrics used in products within the household and workplace.
- Students will be able to identify the properties, structure and processing of manmade and natural fibers and the relationship of these characteristics to the performance of products in the marketplace..
- Students will be able to identify the properties, structure, and processing of yarns and the relationship of these characteristics to the performance of products in the marketplace.
- Students will be able to identify the properties, structure, and processing of woven, knitted, and non-woven fabrics and the relationship of these characteristics to the performance of products in the marketplace.
- Students will be able to articulate effective and ineffective stain removal methods of commercial fabrics stained with common products.
- Students will be able to investigate how utilizing innovative textile products could improve the performance of products and the experience of the consumer.
- Students will be able to identify safe laboratory procedures while conducting textile testing experiments.
