RFM 3830 - Product Development, Evaluation, and Distribution


This course covers the apparel product development process with emphasis on business, creative, technical and production planning of an apparel product line.

Requisites: RFPD 1010 and 1500
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:  

  • Students will be able to develop an apparel product line which details the target market, forecasted trends, color palette, fabric story, findings and trims, croquis and flat sketches, concept board, line details and pricing.
  • Students will be able to evaluate which type of customer he/she is through his/her consumption patterns.
  • Students will be able to examine their personal color sensitivity using the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test.
  • Students will be able to articulate how their personal body measurements compare with retail and pattern sizing charts to determine if vanity sizing and size migration are used.
  • Students will be able to investigate quality of garments through physical evaluation.
  • Students will be able to calculate wholesale price, suggested retail price, and total labor cost.
