ECEE 2400 - Infant/Toddler Mental Health and Development


This course introduces students to infant mental health and development, including brain, social-emotional, language, cognitive, and motor development.

  • Students will be able to describe theoretical foundations of infant and toddler mental health and development.
  • Students will be able to describe and evaluate typical/atypical prenatal-infant-toddler development
  • Students will be able to articulate infant brain development and its central role in social-emotional-motor-language-cognitive development
  • Students will be able to explain the interconnected nature of all domains of development
  • Students will be able to identify risk factors that impact prenatal, infant, and toddler health and development
  • Students will be able to explain the prevention of challenges to infant mental health and development
  • Students will be able to explain strategies and approaches for promoting healthy infant/toddler development
