EDHE 6890 - Legal Issues in American Higher Education An introduction to legal rights, requirements, and issues that affect the operations of institutions and individuals in American higher education.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,CR,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will differentiate treatment, containment, and preventive approaches to situations involving legal liability.
- Students will explore the hierarchy of federal, state, and local law related to American higher education.
- Students will gain a basic understanding of legal terminology and concepts that can affect administrative and faculty practice.
- Students will investigate issues of equity that affect academic, student life, and personnel matters.
- Students will understand some key legal rights and responsibilities of faculty, students, and staff.
