Requisites: Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 laboratory Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Be able to explain how earth surface processes affect lithospheric deformation rates and styles.
- Be able to interpret the geological controls on landforms shown on aerial and satellite images, 3-D visualizations, and topographic maps.
- Graduate field trip reports are worth 14% of their overall course grade (twice the undergraduate value).
- Graduate student quantitative and qualitative exercises require synthesis of scientific literature and greater technological sophistication.
- Graduate students must demonstrate greater levels of comprehension and synthesis.
- Know how existing and ancient climates are imprinted on landscapes around us.
- Know the major driving and resisting forces associated with earth surface processes, including the influences of major geological variables.
- Understand that individual landforms arise from the interplay of driving and resisting forces.
- Understand the mechanics of erosion and deposition by rivers, hillslopes, and glaciers.
