EDCE 6914 - Counseling Internship

• Acquaint students with organizational structure, protocol, relationships, and working conditions.
• Appropriate and responsible awareness of the role of culture in counseling, including knowledge and skills for working with persons different from one’s own cultural identity.
• Case conceptualization skills, including the application of one’s theoretical orientation to understand clients’ unique presenting circumstamces and formulation of a treatment plan.
• Develop basic skills in counseling, consultation, and the behavior change process.
• Engage in opportunities for growth by evaluating one’s own behavior and the effect of that behavior on others in the helping relationship.
• Ensure that students demonstrate high standards of professional ethics; to give the student experience in actual interpersonal relationships that involve ethical decision and practice in evaluating personal motives.
• Gain further understanding of the forces that influence, facilitate, and enhance client’s growth and development.
• Integrate the theory, practice, and ethical standards of counseling with one’s own personal style.
• Stimulate the formation of and identification with a professional role.
• Work as a member of a team by planning and providing counseling and case management services.
