COMM 5300 - Crisis Communication and Planning This course prepares the student to plan for a crisis, recognize, communicate, and operate within a crisis to ensure resiliency, and to recover from a crisis. The concepts are foundational and follow national standards. The focus is learning through exploring crisis events, case studies of organizations and most importantly, developing the fundamental structure of a crisis plan outline and crisis communication plan and implementing a follow-up system to ensure the plan is always ready to implement.
Requisites: COMM 5011 or concurrent Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to define a crisis and identify known elements including the four fundamental categories of crises and the two major types of crises.
- Students will be able to develop a crisis plan outline and a crisis communication plan for an organization.
- Students will be able to develop a crisis plan follow-up calendar and a responsible person(s) checklist.
