CFS 4710 - Family Life Education An introduction in the content and methodology of family life education. It explores the historical roots, philosophy, and objectives of family life education and examines current trends and challenges that face professional family life educators. Intended to help you develop the knowledge and practical skills that are required to identify needs, design programs, teach family life education, effectively facilitate groups, and evaluate participants and programs in a wide variety of settings with a broad range of populations. Emphasizes each of the ten content areas of family life education.
Requisites: C or better in (CFS 2700 and 2710) and (Jr or Sr) Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Acquire group facilitation skills and learn how to structure effective groups, including how to give and receive productive feedback in a constructive and professional manner.
- Define, describe, and demonstrate your understanding, knowledge, and skills relating to the critical content and pedagogical methods that are requisite to effective family life education.
- Demonstrate your knowledge of the requisite content areas and experiences required to become a Certified Family Life Educator.
- Enhance your ability to lecture creatively, structure effective learning environments, use simulations and role plays, and overcome resistance to learning.
- Plan and present (in close cooperation with others) a professional family life education program for a specific population.
