NRSE 4570 - Diversity


Explores cultural heritage of diverse populations and relationship to the provision of culturally sensitive nursing care. Examines concepts to broaden perception and understanding of health and illness and the variety of meanings these terms carry for members of differing sociocultural populations.

Requisites: NRSE 4510 or concurrent. No ND9988.
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

  • Discuss techniques to enhance transcultural communication between health care providers.
  • Examine advocacy for high quality and safe patient care when caring for culturally diverse patients/clients.
  • Examine nursing process and implementation of culturally-appropriate plans of care.
  • Examine the fundamental principles that influence transcultural interaction and communication.
  • Identify factors utilized to establish a therapeutic relationship when communicating with culturally diverse patients/clients.
