PETE 2400 - Foundations of Sport and Games in Physical Education I Sport and games are a primary instructional component of physical education programs. Introduces and provides instruction in a variety of sport skills and game activities that typically occur outdoors. Students will receive instruction in basic skills, tactics and strategies of game play, and will be required to apply principles of outdoor sports and games at different developmental levels.
Requisites: B or better in PETE 1260 or C or better in PETE 2020 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 1.0 lecture, 4.0 laboratory Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Demonstrate and explain basic concepts of a variety of outdoor games such as cooperative games, games to build toward fitness, games that combine and coordinate multiple game strategies.
- Demonstrate and explain essentials of tennis: Stance, footwork, strokes including clears, smashes, and lobs. Learn and demonstrate strategies of singles and doubles, and how to keep score during game play.
- Demonstrate and explain soccer: Basic strategies in game play and how to keep score. Demonstrate an understanding of basic rules during game play.
- Demonstrate and explain softball: Fielding/receiving, using skills in small sided game play utilizing various strategies for offensive and defensive strategies.
- Demonstrate and explain ultimate frisbee including various pass and catch techniques and applying game strategies for basic techniques of offensive and defensive play.
