ME 4650 - Introduction to Composite Materials Introductory course in composite materials. The course will cover the properties, manufacture, design and applications of composites; and students will be introduced to composite processing methods.
Requisites: MATH 2302 and ET 2300 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Calculate mechanical properties of simple composites.
- Describe the influence of reinforcement materials on composites, especially glass and carbon fibers.
- Explain the impact of the use of thermosets and thermoplastics as matrix materials in composites.
- List pros and cons of common processes used to manufacture composites.
- Select an appropriate composite material for a design situation.
