EDCE 8200 - Advanced Seminar for Counseling Educators


Doctoral seminar providing students with preparation for in-depth study of counseling in educational, community, and business settings.

Requisites:
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to construct a vision and a preliminary plan for their practice as doctoral level counselors/counselor educators, with specific emphases on scholarly activity (e.g., service, scholarship, and teaching) and leadership.
  • Students will become familiar with the requirements for completing the Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision in the EDCE program, and with the processes involved in satisfying these requirements.
  • Students will become more fully socialized into the culture of the doctoral program, and become familiar with faculty members and other doctoral students and with their interests.
  • Students will explore the uniqueness of the counseling profession, as well as the similarities between professional counseling and related mental health disciplines, includes current issues in the counseling profession (and ethical practice).
  • Students will specifically consider and explore the meaning and value of doctoral level practice (as counselor and/or counselor educator) in the counseling profession, and will examine the meaning of professional identity and practice.
