EDRE 7500 - Introduction to Qualitative Research Methodology in Education In this course, students learn about the historical and theoretical underpinnings of qualitative methodology. Students utilize the three primary methods of data collection in qualitative research: documents, interviews and observations. Students examine the different theories, sampling strategies, analysis and research designs employed in qualitative methodology. Students design a qualitative inquiry project and explore how to ensure credibility and trustworthiness in the findings of their research. Finally, ethics, CITI and IRB protocols are addressed.

- Students will be able to articulate and discuss the pros & cons of qualitative research.
- Students will be able to explicate the historical development of qualitative research.
- Students will be able to identify different theoretical models employed in qualitative research and qualitative data analysis.
- Students will be able to comprehend and identify different methods employed in qualitative data collection.
- Students will be able to complete ethic protocols such as CITi and/or IRB training.
- Students will be able to construct different sampling strategies and address issues of credibility and trustworthiness in qualitative research.
