MGT 2590 - Strategic Leadership Onboarding


This course enables students to prepare themselves to become leaders and to embark on a path of personal leadership development within the context of strategic organizational objectives. This class exposes students to leadership learning through research, reading, discussion, reflection and experience.

Requisites: WARNING: no credit for this course if taken after the following: MGT 4590
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to describe how group dynamics, roles, power struggles, and decision making occur together in functional group settings.
  • Students will be able to explain gender and cultural influences on leadership.
  • Students will be able to describe their personal leadership potential and demonstrate how to use it to empower others while optimizing their leadership effectiveness.
  • Students will be able to describe how leadership occurs within an open system.
  • Students will be able to describe their individual leadership principles and ethical guidelines and how they will respond under pressure when challenged.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate how to behave professionally in a positive, inclusive learning experience where all students are challenged and supported.
  • Students will be able to illustrate how leadership operates within and between multiple complex and simultaneously occurring relationship effecting one another.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate self-awareness through the exploration of values, beliefs, culture, ethics, and identity.
