EDTE 1010 - Introduction to Hip-Hop Based Education This course explores in depth the complex issues and challenges of education in the United States and how hip-hop based education has been used to create more equitable schooling practices for youth. Course content includes an exploration of the origins of hip-hop based education and its role in addressing social issues and concerns within education. The course emphasizes preparing teacher candidates to use hip-hop culture to connect to the lives of youth.
Requisites: Admission to Hip-Hop Ohio Patton Education program Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. - Students will be able to discuss the influence of hip-hop based education in reframing equitable educational experiences.
- Students will be able to identify the role of hip-hop based education in challenging cultural oppression.
- Students will be able to identify the role of hip-hop based education in affirming student identities.
- Students will be able to identify the role of hip-hop based education in examining power within education as a whole.
- Students will be able to trace the historical development and investigate the cultural practice that gave rise to hip-hop based education
