GEOL 5550 - Limnogeology

Geological aspects of ancient lake environments. Topics in lake models, geochemistry, sedimentology, and stratigraphy are selected from current literature for presentations and discussions.

Learn how lake sedimentation responds to climate, tectonics, watershed characteristics, and basin shape.
Learn how to read and critically analyze scientific papers.
Learn how to write summaries and concepts through analyzing scientific papers.
Learn the different tectonic situations that produce lake basins and how this affects sedimentation patterns in the resultant lakes.
Understand that scientific conclusions must be backed by good evidence.
