ITS 6000 - Research Methods in Information and Telecommunication Systems Provides an overview of the field and introduces the students to the fundamentals of research, including the steps involved in identifying a research problem, how to formulate a problem statement, selection of appropriate research methodologies, accumulating and analyzing relevant empirical data, writing research results. Will explain and analyze various research methods and tools, both quantitative and qualitative.

Lecture/Lab Hours: 4.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Be able to list the steps in addressing a research problem; know how to formulate research questions, and how to select and execute a research methodology to address the questions.
- Know how to formulate hypotheses and how to apply inferential statistics.
- Know the content of and how to write industrial or academic research reports.
- Understand descriptive statistics.
- Understand the difference between qualitative, quantitative and mixed research methods.
- Understand the different research perspectives of service providers, vendors, consulting firms, system interators, academic, and public policy organizations.
