LING 5940 - Research Experience in Linguistics


In this research practicum, students work with faculty on the professor’s research projects. By collaborating on the implementation of a research design, and the evaluation and presentation of the the results, students have the opportunity to reflect on how this research capstone connects with everything they have studied in linguistics.

Requisites:
Credit Hours: 3.0 research
Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 6.0 hours.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 research
Grades: Eligible Grades: F,CR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to explain what research in linguistics consists of.
  • Students will be able to describe the research agenda and the research techniques of the faculty member they will be working with.
  • Students will be able to read previous research articles and how to extract relevant information.
  • Students will be able to orally present research in an academic environment.
  • Students will be able to write a research paper which conforms to the conventions of a targeted academic research journal.
