ART 2320 - Sculpture: Environments & Actions This course introduces students to the processes of creation through building installations, environmental alterations, social interventions, and performance events. Students participate in individual and collaborative practices to develop ideation and realization of spatial projects. Students engage in the study and creation of immersive works, considering issues such as site, context, access, ephemerality, and viewer experience.
Requisites: Any two courses from the following (ART 1111, 1121, 1131, 1141, 1151, 1161, 1171, 1181, 1191, 1200, 1210, 1220, 1230, or VICO 1414); AND SOPH, JR, or SR Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 8.0 hours. Lecture/Lab Hours: 4.0 studio, 2.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to deploy strategies related to immersive and time-based art-making.
- Students will be able to analyze social and environmental concerns applicable to proposed and initiated projects.
- Students will be able to synthesize the lived and embodied experiences of artist and viewer as related to action-based and immersive artworks.
- Students will be able to identify political and bureaucratic barriers to placing public artwork and describe potential solutions.
- Students will be able to work collaboratively to set and achieve artistic goals.
- Students will be able to demonstrate contemporary installation and environment-based art practices in the creation of new work.
