ENG 3970 - Intermediate Creative Writing Workshop: Poetry Upper-division instruction and practice in poetry writing, with attention to the work of contemporary and canonical poets and a focus on craft. Students create and revise original works of fiction with an eye toward publication beyond the classroom.
Requisites: ENG 3620 Credit Hours: 3 OHIO BRICKS: Bridge: Learning and Doing Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 6.0 hours. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 seminar Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to create new works of poetry that refine their independent literary voice.
- Students will be able to connect their lived experience with their literary practice.
- Students will be able to utilize literary strategies in poetry and connect and adapt them to other types of writing.
- Students will be able to assess works-in-progress and communicate their feedback.
- Students will be able to articulate and apply approaches for improving works-in-progress.
- Students will be able to apply feedback to revise works in progress.
- Students will be able to reflect on the nature and purpose of their work and their ongoing development as writers.
- Students will be able to develop their work in light of the publishing standards found in contemporary American literary culture.
