GER 3110 - Advanced Conversation and Composition I Speaking and writing development in German through an exploration of diverse cultural materials and topics of the German-speaking countries.
Requisites: GER 2120 or German placement level 3110 Credit Hours: 3 OHIO BRICKS: Bridge: Diversity and Practice Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to compare cultural perspectives and express insights about their own cultural beliefs and preconceptions.
- Students will be able to discuss the intersections between the cultures of the German-speaking countries and their history, values, politics, communication styles, economy, or beliefs and practices.
- Students will be able to experience and interpret intercultural activities without preconceived biases and demonstrate cultural sensitivity in their interactions with others.
- Students will be able to ask thoughtful questions of the cultures of the German-speaking countries and respond in a way that reflects multicultural perspectives.
- Students will be able to recognize verbal and non-verbal modalities of German and the cultures of the German-speaking countries and employ them successfully in communication.
- Students will be able to initiate and maintain interactions with culturally different others and withhold judgement while making comparisons with their own culture.
- Students will be able to express themselves orally and in writing with sustained control of German grammatical structures and vocabulary.
- Students will be able to interpret and engage with a broad range of authentic materials of the German language and the cultures of the German-speaking countries.
