PAW 1000 - Exercise and Conditioning


Students are introduced to the history, safety, and etiquette of exercise and conditioning. Students gain hands-on experiences in basic exercises and training principles and apply this knowledge to develop an efficient workout program. As students engage in exercise and conditioning, they gain the knowledge and skills necessary to develop a lasting interest in attaining and maintaining personal health and wellness throughout a lifetime.

Credit Hours: 1
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 laboratory

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to identify and describe the history, safety, and etiquette of exercise and conditioning.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate and apply movement skills of exercise and conditioning including push, pull, hinge, lunge, squat, and plyometrics.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate and apply training principles of exercise and conditioning including overload, progression, recovery, and specificity.
  • Students will be able to evaluate physical fitness by reflecting on participation in exercise and conditioning, other physical activity of choice, nutritional choices, and sleep quality.
  • Students will be able to connect course activity to the components of health-related physical fitness and the relationship to personal health and wellness.
