SW 3602 - Social Welfare Policy
The second of a two-course sequence that covers the social welfare policy and practice content of the foundation curriculum for undergraduate social work education. Examines social policy through a social justice, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lens, emphasizing advocacy and advancement of human rights, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive practices at the individual, family, group, organizational, and community systems levels. Applies critical thinking to further explore the relationship between practice, policy, and programs and examines the role research plays in the development, delivery, and access to social services.
Requisites: SW 1000 and 2601C
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to articulate the importance of advocating for human rights at the individual, family, group, organizational, and community systems levels.

- Students will be able to demonstrate anti-racist and anti-oppressive social work practice at the individual, family, group, organizational, community, research, and policy levels,
- Students will be able to critique how social welfare policies affect delivery of and access to social services using social justice, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lenses.
- Students will be able to demonstrate critical thinking to analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies that advance human rights and social, racial, economic and environmental justice.
