MUS 1220 - Exploring Musical Styles This course focuses on the development of listening skills for understanding the elements of musical style in historical perspective, and define the significance of music as fine art.
Requisites: Non music major and WARNING: no credit for this and MUS 1200 or 1250 Credit Hours: 3 General Education Code (students who entered prior to Fall 2021-22): 2FA Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Course Transferability: OTM course: TMAH Arts & Humanities College Credit Plus: Level 1 Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to identify and define the materials, or elements, out of which music is made.
- Students will be able to explain how composers combine these elements into a work of music.
- Students will be able to identify the generally accepted style periods in the history of Western art music.
- Students will be able to identify the style period and characteristics of musical pieces from the Western art music tradition.
