HIST 3465 - History of US China Relations This course examines the relationship between the United States and China by tracing its history from the eighteenth century to the present. An exploration of the political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic history of the complex and consequential interactions between the two countries is balanced with a consideration of the impact of US-China ties on the lives of ordinary individuals.

- Students will be able to identify specific individuals and events that illustrate major aspects of the US-China relationship.
- Students will be able to describe how the US-China relationship has changed over time.
- Students will be able to construct historical arguments based on primary source materials.
- Students will be able to apply their knowledge of the history of US-China relations to assess the contemporary US-China relationship.
- Students will be able to apply their knowledge of the history of US-China relations to engage in culturally aware, empathetic, and open conversations about the contemporary US-China relationship.
- Students will be able to demonstrate curiosity about, and respect for, cultural differences in their verbal and non-verbal communications and will develop an empathetic and shared framework for cross-cultural conversations
