CFS 4680 - Transitions in Development: Young Adulthood This course delves into the multidimensional aspects of the transitions that occur among individuals ages 20-40. It provides an in-depth examination of the developmental, familial, and societal factors that shape the lives of young adults as they navigate the complexities of young adulthood. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes that define this life stage with an emphasis on the interactions between young adults and their families, peers, and communities.
Requisites: (Jr or Sr) and (C or better in CFS 2000 or CFS 2100) and (C or better in CFS 2700, 2710, and 2720) Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to analyze major developmental theories that explain the physical, cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial transformations experienced by young adults.
- Students will be able to identify the processes of identity formation, self-concept, and self-esteem during young adulthood, considering cultural, gender, and socioeconomic influences.
- Students will be able to describe the evolving roles and relationships within families during the young adult phase, including issues related to autonomy, interdependence, and family support systems.
- Students will be able to discuss physical and mental health concerns that impact young adults, including stress, substance use, sexual health, and strategies for maintaining overall well-being.
- Students will be able to describe how cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic factors intersect with young adults’ experiences, shaping their perspectives and opportunities.
- Students will be able to discuss the importance of community involvement, civic participation, and social responsibility as young adults contribute to society.
