CFS 4690 - Transitions in Development: Middle Adulthood This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the unique challenges, opportunities, and developmental trajectories that characterize the middle phase of adulthood. This course delves into the multifaceted aspects of physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes, as well as their impact on individuals, families, and communities. Students emerge with a holistic perspective on the middle-aged stage of life and its implications for human development, families, and communities. The course places a particular emphasis on the intersections between individual experiences, family dynamics such as caregiving, work-life balance, and societal influences.
Requisites: Jr or Sr and a C or better in CFS 2000 or 2100. Non-CFS C or better in CFS 2700, 2710, 2720, or PSY 3420 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. - Students will be able to evaluate practical strategies for managing midlife transitions and stressors, such as empty nesting, career changes, caregiving, and reevaluating life goals.
- Students will be able to discuss cultural norms, societal expectations, and historical events that shape the experiences of middle-aged adults in diverse contexts.
- Students will be able to describe the significance of work and retirement in middle adulthood.
