AH 5191 - Visual Culture of China Studies painting and prints, commercial advertising and fashion, photographs, and films in China, 1840 to 1940. The visual forms are located in a matrix of changing political and social conditions made more complex by the presence of non-Chinese subjects and cultures. Also introduces the methodological concept, visual culture.
