MBA 6395 - Business Intelligence


This course provides a broad overview of business intelligence and data management including database fundamentals, business intelligence approaches, data management/data governance strategies, data mining and other business/data analytics techniques. Our primary emphasis will be on the managerial perspective, focusing on how you can design, implement and leverage business intelligence systems and strategies in a management role.

Requisites: Admission to COB graduate or certificate program or permission
Credit Hours: 3

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to explain the role of data, data management, and governance in business.
  • Students will be able to illustrate corporate data modeling and explain the importance of business intelligence in supporting business decision making and problem solving.
  • Students will be able to explain the concepts of data integration and extraction and transformation.
  • Students will be able to describe the power of business reporting systems and explain their ties to business performance management.
  • Students will be able to perform a current state analysis of a business or organization and develop recommended Data Management, BI and Analytics improvements and approaches.
  • Students will be able to explain basic relational database design, entity relationship structure, and metadata.
  • Students will be able to explain the structure of data warehouses, data cubes, and the ETL process.
  • Students will be able to design, develop, and analyze data visualization reports and dashboards based on a variety of data sets.
  • Students will be able to design, develop, and populate relational databases using MS Access.
