HLTH 5220 - Graduate Seminar in Appalachian Studies This course explores a variety of topics related to Appalachia such as social, environmental, and health issues both historical and present, the idea of Appalachia, and the various ways Appalachia has been exploited over the years.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 seminar Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to identify significant social, environmental, and health related conditions in Appalachia.
- Students will be able to analyze the influence of significant events to the creation of Appalachia.
- Students will be able to summarize contemporary environmental and public health issues in Appalachia.
- Students will be able to apply historical knowledge to social, environmental, and health issues of today.
- Students will be able to critically evaluate readings to determine their place in Appalachian studies.
