The Department of Engineering Technology and Management has a long and rich history of preparing graduates for careers in industry. Most graduates of the Department are employed in technical or management roles as “productivity improvers” in the manufacturing environment.

Accredited by the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering, the B.S. in Engineering Technology and Management combines technical content with courses in General Education, quantitative sciences, natural sciences, and business management, to prepare graduates for technical-management positions in manufacturing organizations. Students also select from one of two focus areas: manufacturing materials and processes or manufacturing information technology.

The focus of the manufacturing materials and processes area is on the advanced theory and application of industrial processes to produce parts and products from common industrial materials. Courses include significant hands-on laboratory time. The area gives students the opportunity for advanced study beyond the basics included in the technical core courses.

The focus of the manufacturing information technology area is on the theory and application of information technology, within the context of manufacturing organizations. This includes using commercial software systems to manage the design of parts and products, prepare production schedules and economic analyses of production alternatives, control machines and equipment, and manage the supply chain.

In addition, all students complete a minor in business, which has proved to be a tremendous asset in both getting the job and advancing within the organization.
