Overview

The School of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences (RCS) is composed of the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) and the Division of Physical Therapy (PT). Graduate programs are offered in PT and CSD and more information can be found in the graduate catalog.  The School is dedicated to excellence in research and education of undergraduate and graduate students who will be successful for future academic study and employment.

The School’s faculty and staff are committed to personalized mentoring of students at all levels, and to integrating academic learning with pre-clinical and clinical education through course work, clinical experiences, research opportunities, and extracurricular activities.

Numerous RCS alumni have achieved highly visible leadership positions as researchers, professors, authors, clinic directors, and administrators. RCS faculty members are known internationally for their research and clinical expertise. The School has a solid commitment to international collaboration and ample external clinical research sites in the US and in several other countries.

Student Organizations

Aging and Gerontological Education Society (A.G.E.S.)

A.G.E.S., an undergraduate club open to students in the College of Health Sciences and Professions, allows students to be involved in volunteer work in local nursing homes and hospice centers.  These opportunities will pertain to the interactions with the elderly community.

Creative Expressions

The purpose of this organization is to create and organize activities for typically developing children as well as children with disabilities.  The organization aims to provide an inclusive learning experience for students and children.

National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA)

NSSLHA is for students majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders.  Activities include speakers, volunteer activities, and social activities.

Ohio University Sign Language Club

The purpose of this club is to bridge the gap between the hearing and deaf worlds by informally educating people on the usage and application of American Sign Language in everyday life.

Pre-Physical Therapy Club

This club is designed for those students who are interested in possibly pursuing a career in this broad and rewarding field.  Includes discussions of current issues and demonstrations performed by experienced therapists.

Students of Audiology (SOA)

The purpose of this club is to assist those interested in the field of audiology and community awareness through philanthropic, social, and educational events.

Undergraduate Research Club (URC)

The Communication Sciences and Disorders Undergraduate Research Club is for students who are interested in learning more about research in communication sciences and disorders.  Open only to CSD majors and minors.
